Fishing for Name Tags

Another method is fishing with a fishing rod. While fishing primarily yields fish, there's approximately a 1-in-100 chance of catching a name tag as junk or treasure. This method requires patience but works in any body of water at any time.

Using Name Tags

Once obtained, name tags are used with an anvil. Place the name tag in the anvil's input slot and type your desired name, then combine it with a mob to permanently name that creature. A named mob will never despawn, even if you leave the area or load other chunks, making them perfect for keeping specific animals safe.
